ARTS OF FASHION 2006 THEME & CALENDAR & RULES & REGULATIONS

  • 1. THE ARTS OF FASHION COMPETITION IS TO:

Promote & reward creativity & inventiveness, discover young talents & encourage careers, establish enriching contacts & exchanges between different countries, different Schools & Universities, different industries & fields to know each other better. The first 3 laureates will receive Awards and a Certification for their creative and original work based on themes chosen each year by the Paris organization. (Coherence with the theme, skills level, and art expressiveness).

2. THEME 2006: Fashion - The Way to Express The Body &The Mind / La Mode - un moyen d'expression du corps et de l'esprit)

3. CALENDAR 2006:

- January 16, 2006: Registration online is open up to a limit of 500 participants.

- April 26, 2006: Deadline to receive your fashion illustration with its requirements to mail to the Arts of Fashion Foundation.

- May 21, 2006: Publication on the AF website of the list of the selected candidates.

- October 9, 2006: Deadline to receive your entire final project to mail to the University of North Texas-Denton for Arts of Fashion Competition.

- October 16-19, 2006: Arts of Fashion Foundation Student workshops (MasterClass-serie).

- October 20-21, 2006: National Final - Arts of Fashion Competition. (Exhibition, Seminar, Presentation, Fashion Show, Award Ceremony and Results)

4. GENERAL CONDITIONS FOR PARTICIPATION:

The competition is open to any students carrying studies in Fashion or Design in the United States, during the academic year 2005-2006.By its own participation, the participant / candidate will represent also its School, College or University.

- Candidates must attend a course of study and not be professionally employed in the fashion area.
- Candidates must undertake to design and do their own project completely themselves.
- Candidates must follow the instructions and specifications for their prototype.
- Registration must be submitted on an individual basis and in the chosen categories.
- Online registration, illustration and final project received after the deadlines will not be accepted as well as registration fees are not refundable.
- Projects selected for the National Final can not be presented in another U.S. competition in 2006.

5. RULES & REGULATIONS FOR AF-COMPETITION 2006:

1st STEP
From January 16 up to 500 participants: Online registration. ($ 30 entrance fees for one category or $ 50 for both categories)

2nd STEP
Deadline on April 26, 2006 to receive your fashion illustration with its requirements, to mail to the Arts of Fashion Foundation: 635 Tennessee Street Suite #402 San Francisco CA 94107 (in a strong cardboard envelope).
- One full color fashion illustration of your project on a page no larger or smaller than 8-1/2" x 11" format. (Your name should be at the back of your illustration and it should not be also glued on any cardboard).
- One technical sheet with flats and samples of fabric or material on a page no larger or smaller than 8-1/2" x 11" format. (Your name should be at the back of your technical sheet and it should not be also glued on any cardboard).
- A written separate statement on a page explaining briefly your concept and idea in regard of the theme is also welcome this year. (Your name should be at the back of your statement page and it should not be also glued on any cardboard).

Your recent resume, a photocopy of your student ID 2005-06, the print or photocopie of your online Paypal registration, and one envelope 9”x 12” with the right postage on it and to the address you would like to have your project sent back later are requested and need to be provided in the same envelope than your overall project.

3rd STEP
The selected candidates list will be published on the website no later than May 26, with instructions and specifications for the developments of the competition in the U.S.

4th STEP
- The realization of the project should be received by October 9, 2006
at the University of North Texas Denton for Arts of Fashion Competition. (Late projects will not be accepted in any case). If you want a verification of delivery, you need to request this from your shipping company. Address to mail : UNT-School of Visual Arts / AF-Competition / Art Building - Attention Jerry Aul - Room 107- 1201 W. Mulberry Denton TX, 76201.
- The realization of the project should follow the measurements provided on the AF website.
- Your project should include shoes (size 9), stockings... and all underwear and accessories that you would like the model wear.
- Everything should be sent with a transparent clothing bag (with your name and address written on it), appropriate hangers and one precise instruction page in a plastic sleeve (photos can be added if necessary) to help the dressers.

6. EXCLUSION CLAUSE:

Entries will be automatically disqualified from the competitions by the US national and/ or pre-selection committeesand/or U.S. and Paris organizations for the following reasons:

- If they do not comply with the specifications.
- If they are received after the deadline.
- If they give rise to a legal dispute with juries or organizations or else.
- If they give rise to any kind of pressure toward the jury members, the hosting University, the U.S. and /or Paris
organizations and Sponsors of these competitions.

The projects will be judged at each level, by well-known professionals from the field of fashion, design, media and other experts jury members. In all matters concerning the course of the competition, the selection of the different winners and settling disputes, the decision of the judges is final. All matters will be decided by majority vote and not subject to appeal. In case of a tie, the President of the Jury will cast the deciding vote. Jury deliberations will not be made public and the anonymity of the candidates presented to the jury will be preserved by the organizations.

5. RULES & REGULATIONS FOR AF-MASTERCLASSES 2006:

October, Mon 16-Thu 19 / 09:00 - 05:00 /4 DAY WORKSHOP / MasterClass-Series / Scoular Building -UNT
There will be 2 MasterClasses opened, for a limitate number of U.S fashion design students participating in two experimental 4-day workshops, as follows:

The Fashion Design Worshop: directed by Crstof Beaufays, Jean-Paul Gaultier- Paris Associate Designer and Creative Director, and Tony Delcampe, Director, Fashion Design Department, La Cambre "Modes"- Brussels, and Head Designer for Anemie Verbeke.

The Fashion Design Accessories Worshop: conducted by Wendy&Jim, Austrian Fashion Designers, showing their collections every season during the Fashion Week in Paris. They are also the Artistic Collaborators for Veronique Branquinho at the University of Applied Arts-Vienna.

The designs, produced by students in the workshops will be presented as a special segment in the AF Fashion Show. Your recent resume, a photocopy of your student ID 2005-06, the print or photocopie of your online Paypal registration will be requested the first day to be admitted into the MasterClass you chose. Please, bring also your basic sewing material!

1st STEP: From August 20 up to 40 participants: Online registration. ($ 600 entrance fees for one workshop and a Student PASS for the AF event 2006)

2nd STEP: Your recent resume should be emailed immediatly after your Paypal registration to masterclass@arts-of-fashion.org.

3rd STEP: Your registration will be fully completed only when you will received back an email of confirmation from the Arts of Fashion organization. Instructions and material specifications for the developments of the masterClass as well as the realization of the project will be emailed soon after. A list of hotels will be provided. After your fully completed admittance with the AF confirmation, no refund will be possible. Spots are limitate.

The Arts of fashion Foundation and their members, volunteers and instructors, and the host University won't in anyway responsible for any kind of accidents, damages or lost of the final projects or belongings which could happen during the process of the workshop and all the events such as transportation or else. It is the responsability of the students to be insure and to insure or not what produce or /and submit.

7. PROTECTION OF WORK:

The projects of the candidates remain the artistic property of their designers. Candidates whose works are pre-selected and, or awarded prizes allow the organizers and sponsors to contact and / or promote, them and / or their projects through a wide range of media ( press, TV, Internet, mailing, advertising, exhibitions, fashion show) for a period of 12 months following the pre selection and competitions dates.

8. AMENDMENT SUSPENSION TERMINAISON INSURANCE:

In the event of an amendment or decision to or suspension or termination of the AF-Competition 2006, for any reason, the U.S. and French organizations as well as the sponsors and members of the juries won't beheld responsible in anyway.

The U.S. and French organizations, the host Universities won't in anyway responsible for any kind of damages or lost of the illustrations and/or final projects submitted in these competitions which could happen during the process of these competitions, transportation or else. It is the responsability of the students to insure or not what they submit.
