PRESS RELEASE --- November 5, 2007
--- ARTS OF FASHION ROCKS MIAMI !
From downtown to the beaches, the 2007 Arts of Fashion International
Design Symposium and Competition took over Miami this past week
infusing chic Miami style with stylish European influence. Opening
with five Masterclasses at the Miami International University
of Art and Design, 2007 promised to be the biggest, most exciting
Arts of Fashion event ever. Following the Opening Reception hosted
by Charlene Parsons and the MIU Fashion Design Department, the
Arts of Fashion debuted “Lagerfeld: Confidential”
at the historic Gusman Center in downtown Miami. This highly anticipated
film follows the life of iconic fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld
and is the first intimate portrait of the man behind Chanel. Keeping
on the forefront of major industry issues: the Tandem Series tackled
copyright in fashion with Susan Scafidi; marketing a young designer
label with Ann Claes from Veronique Branquinho; and the new role
of fashion bloggers in media with Susie Bubble and Isabelle Blandiaux.
On Saturday, the DuPont Building hosted the International Design
Competition and Fashion Show. Using the marble filled ballrooms
adorned with gold gilded gates as an exquisite backdrop, the show
opened with the work completed in the Masterclass, followed by
the Carte Blanche Series featuring the collections of Mathieu
Blazy and Sandra Backlund. The International Design Competition
exhibited the work of 61 finalists from countries around the world.
Presenting 2 silhouettes, each candidate showed the jury and attendees
their interpretation of ‘Confusion’, while competing
for one of the eight internships and scholarships offered. For
the first time, the Arts of Fashion introduced its Debut Series;
where collections from alumni of the Arts of Fashion including:
Carlos Santiago, Megan Stein, Douglas Rekker, and David Gil, closed
out the runway exhibitions. With Veronique Branquinho as the President
of the Jury, the awards were as follows:
