ARTS OF FASHION 2008 THEME & REQUIREMENTS

Theme 2008: INFLUENCE

Students will have the opportunity to submit an application showing their creative and innovative design potentials in the following two categories:

• ACCESSORIES: a mini collection of three accessories, including luggage, bags, belts, hats, shoes, etc… Sorry no jewelry will be accepted. Applicants can submit a collection in any combination, such as three different belts or one belt, one bag, and one pair of shoes.

• FASHION: a mini collection of three outfits in menswear, womenswear, or a mixed collection of both men’s and womenswear.

Online registration opens: Dec 1, 2007

• First Round / to design a capstone collection of 3 outfits:

- 1 page for the 3 illustrations or plan of collection
- 1 page for each illustration
- 1 page for each flats/technical designs
- 1 page for the fabric and material swatches
- 1 page for the developed concept or atmosphere or mood board
- 1 page for the written concept (maximum 100 words)
- 1 resume / CV of the applicant
- 1 student ID (photocopy) 2008 of the applicant

Format of each page: 8.5" x 11" or A4 / Letter – and on separate page (do not try to bind it or else) – name and school and email address and cell phone number should be written on the back of each page with a pencil

Deadline to receive the project: April 24, 2008 - Jury session meeting: Mid May, 2008 - Results posted on the AF website: May 24, 2008, Mail application in a sturdy cardboard envelope or box to avoid any damage to:

    1. THE ARTS OF FASHION COMPETITION EXISTS TO:

    Promote and reward creativity and inventiveness; discover young talent and facilitate careers; establish enriching contacts and exchanges between different countries, schools and universities; and to foster new relationships between those from different industries and fields.

    The first 8 laureates will receive Awards and a Certification for their creative and original work based on themes. (Judging based on coherence with the theme, skill level, creativity and artful expressiveness).

    The best designs were selected by an International jury committee composed of 10 professional fashion members Tony Delcampe (Annemie Verbeke – Brussels, Belgium), Laurent Edmond (Maison Martin Margiela – Paris, France), Hermann Fankhauser (Wendy & Jim – Vienna, Austria), Susanna Lau aka Susie Bubble (Style Bubble – London, United Kingdom), Natalia Brilli (Natalia Brilli – Paris, France), Daniele Controversio (Replay – Asolo, Italy), Thierry Rondenet and Herve Yvrenogeau (Own – Brussels, Belgium), Sandra Backlund (Sandra Backlund – Stochkolm, Sweden) presided over by Veronique Branquinho, international leading contemporary fashion designer from Antwerp, Belgium.

    4. GENERAL CONDITIONS FOR PARTICIPATION 2008:

    The competition is open to students studying Fashion and Design anywhere in the world during the academic year 2007-2008. The participants will not only represent themselves, but also their Schools, Colleges or Universities, as well as their Countries.

    - Candidates must be current students and cannot be professionally employed in the fashion industry.
    - Candidates must design their own original projects completely by themselves.
    - Candidates must follow the design and specifications outlined in their application for realization of their final project.
    - Registration must be submitted on an individual basis and in the chosen categories.
    - Online registration, applications, and final projects received after the deadlines will not be accepted. Registration fees are non-refundable.
    - Projects selected in the International Final 2008 cannot be presented in another U.S. competition during the year 2008. -Projects selected in the International Final 2008 cannot be exibited without the written mention: selected or awarded for the Arts of Fashion International Student Competition 2008.

     

    5. RULES & REGULATIONS FOR AF-COMPETITION 2008:

    1st STEP
    December 1, 2007: Online registration begins ($30 registration fee for one category or $50 for both categories through PayPal; www.af-competition.com)

    2nd STEP
    April 24, 2008: Deadline for all application materials to be received by the Arts of Fashion Foundation: 635 Tennessee Street, Suite #402, San Francisco, CA 94107 (use a sturdy cardboard envelope to avoid any damage to application materials).

    3rd STEP
    May 4, 2008: The candidates invited to continue on to the International Final will be announced on the AF website (www.af-competition.com), along with instructions and specifications for completion of the final projects.

    4th STEP
    October 14, 2008:
    Deadline for all selected projects to be received at the Arts of Fashion Foundation.

    -Final projects must be sent to the Arts of Fashion Foundation to the attention of Nathalie Doucet. Details will be specified to the selected students. Late projects will not be accepted under any circumstances. It is the candidates’ responsibility to arrange for verification of shipment with their shipping company.
    -The realization of the project should follow the instructions and measurements provided on the AF website (just below).
    -Fashion projects should include shoes (size 9-10), and any particular stockings, undergarments, or accessories that the model should wear.
    -Every outfit should be sent in a separate transparent garment bag (with your name and address written on it), appropriate hangers, and one precise instruction page in a plastic sleeve (photos can be added if necessary) to help the dressers.

     

    6. EXCLUSION CLAUSE:

    Entries will be automatically disqualified from the competition for the following reasons:

    - If the final project does not follow the design or specifications outlined in the candidate’s original application.
    - If they are received after the deadline.
    - If they may result in any copyright infringement or legal dispute for the jury, organizers, sponsors, or host university.
    - If they pressure for preferential treatment by the jury members, the hosting university, the organizers, or sponsors of the competition.

    Applications and Final Projects will be judged by experts and well-known professionals from fashion, design, media, and other fields. In all matters concerning the course of the competition, including the selection of award winners and settling disputes, the decisions of the judges are final. All matters will be decided by majority vote and are not subject to appeal. In case of a tie, the President of the Jury will cast the deciding vote. Candidates will be presented anonymously to the Jury by the competition organizers. Jury deliberations will not be made public.



    7. PROTECTION OF WORK:

    Candidates maintain artistic ownership of their designs and final projects. By the act of participating in the competition, candidates give permission to the organizers and sponsors to contact and promote them and their projects through a wide range of media: press, TV, internet, mailing, advertising, exhibitions, fashion show, etc…) for a period of twelve months following the International Final. Winning projects cannot be presented in another U.S. competition for twelve months following the International Final. If a winning project is exhibited in any media, mention of the Arts of Fashion Competition is required.

     

    8. AMENDMENT SUSPENSION TERMINATION INSURANCE:

    In the event the AF Competition 2008 is suspended or terminated for any reason, the organizers, as well as the sponsors, will not be held responsible in any way.

    The Arts of Fashion Foundation and its members, volunteers, and instructors, and the host University will not in any way be responsible for any accident, damage or loss of the final projects or candidates’ belongings during the course of competition, including workshops, tranbsportation, and all events. It is the responsibility of the participants to insure their submissions.


    9. RULES & REGULATIONS FOR ARTS OF FASHION MASTERCLASS-SERIES 2008: Sat. Oct 25 - Wed. Oct 29 / 09:00 AM- 05:00 PM /4+1 DAY WORKSHOP / MasterClass-Series / San Francisco

    There will be 7 MasterClass-series opened, for a limited number of fashion design students and young fashion professionals participating in these intensive & innovative 4+1day workshops:

    The designs produced in the workshops will be presented as a special segment in the AF Fashion Show. Your recent resume, a photocopy of your full-time student ID, the print or photocopie of your online Paypal payment registration will be requested the first day to be admitted into the MasterClass-series. Please, bring also your sewing machine and your basic sewing material.

    1st STEP: Online registration for the workshops you want to participate in . The tuition fees are ($ 875 as full time Student or $ 1150 if you are a young fashion professional graduated less than 5 years ago) a 20% late registration fees will apply after September 24.

    2nd STEP: The Arts of Fashion will try to meet your first preference to the best of our ability, but we will be notifying you in the event of not being able to do so. For those students who previously attended an Arts of Fashion MasterClass-series and/or the Arts of Fashion Summer Program in Europe before, the AF would highly recommend that you register for a workshop with different instructors than previously, so as to enrich your learning experience and your exposure to different teachings and fashion philosophies.

    3rd STEP: Your registration will be fully completed only when you received back an email of confirmation from the Arts of Fashion organization. Instructions and material specifications for the developments of the MasterClass-series as well as the realization of the project will be emailed after. The Arts of Fashion has secured a room block for the MasterClass group and a list of hotels will be provided. After your fully completed admittance to the workshop with the AF confirmation received, In case of a cancellation of workshop for any reason/ circonstance tuition fees will be refund. Spots are limited and are on first come, first served.

    CANCELLATION POLICY All demand of cancellation must be made in writing before theses dates: before August 24 Refund of the tution fees less 10%, before September 24 refund of the tuition fees less 30% after September 24 no tution fees refund.
