The Arts of Fashion Foundation is preparing itself for the 2011 AOF Awards and Symposium.
During the last weekend of October, the 10th edition of this annual Fashion Rendez-Vous will take place at the San Francisco Art Institute – one of the oldest and most distinguished American School of Fine Arts.

Not only is SFAI home to a famous Diego Riviera mural, it also preserves the tradition of collecting illustrious artists among both alumni and faculty. This trading mark illustrates at best the transmission of art and professional practice as well as culture and society to an up and coming generation of talents. The Arts of Fashion Foundation is thrilled to introduce, showcase and bring together emerging fashion talents from around the world in such an inspirational, vitalized and educative space.

This 10th year anniversary offers a careful consideration for the Arts of Fashion organization. In regards to the economic turmoil, the Foundation is going through a restrictive phase. Participating students, designers, professionals, partners and volunteers alike can therefore consider themselves as Fashion warriors.

Seizing SFAI's vibrant spirit and environment, this upcoming Fashion Rendez-Vous has been developed around an intensive two-day schedule, open to the public. A strong attention will be given to the students’ work, with a candidate exhibition and a portfolio session reviewed with jurors. In addition, lectures and networking opportunities will complement a unique two-day-long fashion show.

Late afternoon Sunday Oct. 30 2011, the Arts of Fashion Symposium will culminate in a special Awards Ceremony, rewarding emerging talents with tremendous potential.

Dear Selected Arts of Fashion Candidates 2011!

The Arts of Fashion Foundation is delighted to congratulate you!
You have been selected to participate in the 10th Arts of Fashion Competition – the Premier International Fashion Student Competition.
We had more than 330 applicants from 96 Fashion Schools and Universities and from 32 different countries this year! The first round Jury joined together at the San Francisco State University on April 18, and selected 58 projects in Fashion and 7 in Accessories! Many thanks to all of them again!

Next step to move on as one of the selected candidate: You have now 2 of the 3 silhouettes/ or Accessories to realize from your own choice:
• In order to confirm your participation in the international Finale, you need to email us as soon as possible and no later than May 15 , the 2 illustration silhouettes/ or Accessories that you have decided to present. In the email, please indicate the two silhouettes/ or Accessories by its number (i.e.: 1 and 2, or 2 and 3, etc.). We also would like you to confirm by writing in the same email that you are a student.
• Then, the deadline to receive your final project in San Francisco is October13, 2011: Link

Remember that as a selected candidate you get your free pass for all the fashion symposium activities. It is not required that you attend the event, however, it is such a valuable experience to be with all of us in celebrating your success. It is an excellent opportunity because you have been selected to continue to develop your creative skills and strengthen your own fashion vision while networking with designers and other talented students from all over the world. FIRST ROUND SELECTION - JURY MEMBERS APRIL 18, 2011 @ SAN FRANCISCO STATE UNIVERSITY

The Arts of Fashion Foundation is pleased to announce that, Andrea Reynders – former Department Chair and Professor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Illinois, Mimi Ray – Lecturer and Developing the future Fashion Studies BFA Program at the Kendall College of Art and Design in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Janice Paredes – Fashion Design Department Coordinator at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in San Francisco, California, Marianne Egan – Apparel Design Instructor at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon, JongEun Kim – Assistant Professor at the California State University, Northridge, California, Brigida Ribeiros – Assistant Professor at Artes Aplicadas, Instituto Politécnico de Castelo Branco, Portugal, Nancy Rabolt – Professor and Department Chair at the San Francisco State University, California were the selected fashion professors for the preliminary judging of the 10th Arts of Fashion International Student Competition 2011.

The challenge during this long day - on April 18 - was to select candidates in Fashion and Accessories based on the student 2D project from 32 Countries and 96 Schools and Universities! Innovation, Creativity and Coherence, Illustration and Feasibility, with the theme -TENSION- for this year, were the main criteria .

The first Jury session meeting was on Monday April 18, 2011 and was generously hosted by the Apparel Design and Merchandising department of the San Francisco State University. Thanks again to Dr. Nancy Rabolt, Department Chair, Professor and each jury member!

ARTS OF FASHION COMPETITION 2011 - THEME & REQUIREMENTS

THEME 2011 "TENSION"- MENSWEAR / WOMENSWEAR OR MIXED COLLECTION

Students will have the opportunity to submit an application showing their creative and innovative design potentials in the following two categories:
• ACCESSORIES: a mini collection of three accessories, including luggage, bags, belts, hats, shoes, etc… Sorry no jewelry will be accepted. Applicants can submit a collection in any combination, such as three different belts or one belt, one bag, and one pair of shoes.
• FASHION: a mini collection of three outfits in menswear, women wear, or a mixed collection of both men’s and women’s wear.

ONLINE REGISTRATION 2011 IS NOW CLOSED

Deadline to receive the project: April 14, 2011
Jury session meeting: Monday April 18, 2011
Results posted on the AoF website: April 20, 2011

Online registration opens and limited to 500 applicants.

• First Round / to design a capstone collection of 3 outfits:
- 1 page for the 3 illustrations or plan of collection
- 1 page for each illustration
- 1 page for each flats/technical designs
- 1 page for the fabric and material swatches
- 1 page for the developed concept or atmosphere or mood board
- 1 page for the written concept (maximum 100 words)
- 1 resume / CV of the applicant
- 1 student ID (photocopy) 2009/2010 of the applicant
