Created in Japan
in 1982 by Air France, the contest took on an international flavour
in 1983, with the participation of the Fédération
française de la Couture, du Prêt à Porter
des Couturiers et des Créateurs de Mode, presided over
by Mr. Jacques Mouclier. Today, the City Hall of Paris, the DEFI
and PFAFF are also partners.This international Fashion design
student contest is the most famous and prestigious one. Each year,
each country is represented by its 10 fashion finalists and its
5 finalists in the accessories category in Paris.
- The panel of judges awarded
1 Incitating Prize in the Fashion category by country and 1 Fashion
Grand Prize as well as 1 Incitating Prize in the Accessories category
by country and 1 Accessories Grand Prize.
- Mrs Lill Nylen from PFAFF,
Mr Francois Lesage and Mr Pierre Cardin also attribuated 3 special
prizes.

- “Art and
Fashion and Industry” is the new theme for 2005!

- 2002,
with the theme "Love and Fashion" was the
re-birth of this competition in the U.S. and 21 different fashion programs
were represented in the first round with more than 150 candidates who
participated in it and made of this event a true success. Didier Grumbach
(President of the French Federation of Haute Couture, Ready-to-Wear
and Designers) came to preside over the event in the U.S.
- Kelly Leveton (Marist College
- NY), Issariya Virajsilp (Parsons School of Design - NY) and Maren
Hartman (University of Cincinnati), were the recipients of the US 3
special awards 2002.
Then, Hassan Halimshah (Marymount University - VA) and Shivonne Kissoondath
(International Fine Art College - Miami) received the incentive prizes
2002 in Paris.
- 2003,
with the theme "Tradition and Modernity"
was even better because the judges in Paris, last December, recognized
again the exceptional design talent of Kimberley Moore as did previously
the judges in the US, a month before!
- Kimberley Moore (University
of Delaware), Patricia Yoon (Parsons School of Design - NY) in fashion
and Andres Pick (Miami International University of Art & Design)
in accessories were the recipients of the US 3 special awards 2003.
Then, Kimberley Moore (University of Delaware) and Alex Chapman (Houston
Community College) received the incentive prizes 2003 in Paris.

2004, with the theme “Sustainability
and Fashion” brought together an international jury around
Florence Muller,, fashion historian, curator and author, as the President.
Oklahoma State University hosted the entire event with the U.S. final
added to strategic debates and unique exhibitions of young Arts of Fashion
talents: Crstof Beaufays, fashion designer, Aurore de la Morinerie,
fashion illustrator and Luciana Val and Franco Musso, fashion photographers!
- 33 fashion programs participated
in the AF competition 2004 and 252 entrances were registered for the
first round.
- Stephanie Otto (University
of Cincinnati), Thunyarnee Denwikrom and A-Lan Baik (Parsons School
of Design, NY) were the new recipients of the 3 US special awards 2004.
Then, Mittal Shah (Drexel University) and Mary Wolf (University of Cincinnati)
received the incentive prizes 2004 in Paris.
- It is the first time that
these 2 fashion programs are recognized in Paris for this contest! Congratulation!
- Next: what about the Grand
Prix 2005 in Paris for one of our U.S. talented fashion design students
with a great inspiring theme such as "Art and Fashion and
Industry"!
