After exploring Paris and the Musee des Arts Decoratifs in The Louvre in 2020, and the revolutionary fashion city of Antwerp in Belgium last year, The Arts of Fashion Foundation has decided to highlight another fashion epicenter: Latin America. While we look forward to returning to the in-person Arts of Fashion Annual Symposium in San Francisco in the future, we are grateful for such opportunities to shed light on the beautiful craft of this region.
With a long textile industry history in Medellin, a Colombian fashion manufacturing industry which today remains mainly considered for its strong exponential economical revenue, a craft and know-how of indigenous people through the overall country preserved, and a longtime relationship that the Arts of Fashion cultivated during years with a group of former awardees, it has been natural to choose the city of Medellin this year to deliver its third video presentation of the 2022 competition - a city full of contrasts, but also worldly recognized for its innovation cultivation and powerful model of social development.

Under the Arts of Fashion Foundation direction, finalist's fashion projects of this year's international contest were shot across various locations of Medellin at the end of October - in collaboration with 8 fashion students and 2 alumni of Colegiatura and their professors, El Munequero Beauty School and models from the XY Models agency of Medellin. Many thanks to all of them as well as to the Medellin Film Commission.

Congratulations to ALL the selected student designers - FINALISTS, from the world's top design schools, presented their vision with RESONANCE as a theme, competiting in the international Arts of Fashion Competition 2022 in Medellin, Colombia. The entire Fashion film of the competition 2022 is also available on the Arts of Fashion Foundation YouTube channel.

Daughter of one of the leading independent Colombian fashion designers Olga Piedrahita, Danielle Lafaurie, a graduate of Universidad de Los Andes in industrial design and literature, went to live in India for a couple of years, where she discovered the art of jewelry collaborating with Sanjay Kasliwal from "The Gem Palace". In 2007, she came back to Bogota and took over the family fashion House direction, while still styling and set designing collaborative projects with photographers including Ruven Afanador, developing textile design and launching her own jewelry brand under her name. She is always finding a way to integrate various disciplines in creative proposals that communicate the essence of Latin America and tirelessly explores her native country artisan techniques, to meaningfully contribute to the GLOCAL (Global + local) concept. |

Graduating in Fashion marketing and design from Parsons Fashion School of Design (2017), the Venezuelan-born American designer, Gabriella Wells, participated in the Arts of Fashion Summer Program in Paris, and was also invited to be a member of the first Dior's mentorship program in Paris, the same year. Today, she is the Founder of the first inclusive luxury brand HISAURA launched in 2018 in New York. A purveyor of inclusion, she designs for everyone, and strives to create a world of accessibility. From the Covid waves replicas, she relocated in Medellin, revisiting her latin-american roots while continuing to explore techniques and craft offered in this part of the world to creative designers, pursuing and developing all her research in fashion.

The Medellin-based designer, Miguel Mesa Posada has come a long way since receiving the AOFF Lemarie/ Lesage Award in San Francisco (2014). With his stunning textile design craft material created in his fashion collection, developed at his Alma Mater - Colegiatura Colombiana (2015), he attracted the attention of the Jury, presided by iconic Indian designer - Manish Arora. With a Masters in Anthropology from the prestigious social sciences school in Paris (EHESS 2019), and a Masters of the French fashion business institute (IFM 2020), the young creative mind is back in Medellin. As a consultant with Colombian clients including the art lover and collector Gloria Saldarriaga and the successful brand Agua by Agua Bendita, he is also currently the liaison for local craft design research for Loewe, Paris (LVMH).

On Wednesday, May 25, the First-Round Jury Selection for the Arts of Fashion Competition 2022 has been generously hosted at Le 19M.

Like weaving threads, letting the light going through, the striking building design of Rudy Ricciotti, is the brand new sanctuary for les Metiers d'Art-Chanel, which opened last year. "19" represents not only the day of birth of Gabrielle, Chanel, but the 19th district of Paris, where the flagship resides, housing most of the iconic Maisons of the Parisian craftsmanship of Haute Couture.

The task of the judging committee is to identify 50 international candidates in Fashion and Accessories based on the students 2D submissions under this year theme of RESONANCE among all the 300 portfolios received from over 102 Schools and Universities across 27 Countries.

We are delighted to announce the 50 finalists of this year's Arts of Fashion Competition 2022!
